The Art Jans
collection
Art Jans was very proud of his son's achievements and kept a
collection of papers, press clippings, tapes and photographs in a trunk.
As time goes by we hope to bring some of these treasures to the web site
thanks to the generosity of the current guardian of these artifacts
A great deal of the content of the trunk refers to Champion and I
believe there is a publication in progress which will comment on the
recording, so to begin with let us look at some other items.
Prose

An example of prose from The Trunk. (undated)
The Trunk also contains the lyrics to a never before
seen song entitled Murietta, and some of the original handwritten
notes/dialogue for a screenplay treatment called 'Lovin' Arms'.
There are reels of tape and Tom's personal collection of albums and
cassettes. It is not clear how much audio information might be
available, if any. It is possible that tapes will have deteriorated
beyond any degree of use.
"Art ... put them [the tapes] in the trunk with some personal
items of Toms'. The trunk was kept outside on his covered porch for a
few years before giving the trunk to [ jf ] because it was too painful
for him to have them around and he wanted [ jf ] to have the last of
Toms belongings. So, I don't know what kind of condition they are in as
far as sound quality."

There are also hand written lyrics of certain songs from 'Champion",
a detailed, typed list of everyone who worked on the production and
execution of 'Champion', and a handwritten page of what Tom was thinking
would/did compile 'Champion'.
