A message to your heart
1981
words & music by Tom Jans, Alan Brackett.
"I have the recording with him singing it and then another with me
singing after a small re-write. I can't make up my mind which I like better.
But I really like Tom singing the original version. Tom only wrote the second verse,
and I wrote the rest before playing it for him. That's how it happened.
Anyway, I wish someone would record it - it's a really good song.
I miss Tom - I remember being up at Bud and Jeans - his parents place in
Atascadero. Tom was showing me one of his rifles and it went off right next to my
head! Luckily he was holding it correctly and the bullet went through the ceiling
and up through the roof! Scared the hell out of me. I slept out in the
tack-house and in the morning woke to the high pitched sound of "Hey, Al"
"Hey, Al". It sounded like one of my friends on helium or
something. It was the first time I heard peacocks!"
